F223 (2006). Point defects due to excess oxygen in a perovskite structure.

Although the resolution of TEM is not high enough to detect individual oxygen atoms, the randomly located excess oxygen in a perovskite structure can cause local lattice distortion, the contribution of diffraction contrast from these distorted areas can be detected as some dark spots.
